WASHINGTON, D.C. (MASNET) April 11, 2009 – The Muslim American Society (MAS) announces with the deepest sorrow, the passage of its leader and one of the organization's founders, Dr. Ahmed El-Kadi, who returned to his Lord after suffering a massive stroke on Saturday, April 11, 2009, in Tampa, Florida.
A highly-principled man who lived and worked tirelessly in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, Dr. El-Kadi will be remembered as one of the pioneers of the Islamic community in the United States.
Dr. El-Kadi founded numerous U.S. Islamic institutions, including the first Institute of Islamic Medicine for Education and Research based in Panama City, Florida, where he served as President; established with the hope that it would be a light-house in guiding and establishing Institutes of Islamic Medicines here in North America and over 60 Muslim countries. He also served as President of the Immune Technology Group in Fort Lee, New Jersey in addition to practicing thoracic cardiovascular and general surgery in Springfield, Missouri and Panama City, Florida. He also taught courses on surgery at the University of Missouri Medical Center and affiliated hospitals. Dr. El-Kadi will also be greatly remembered for his contributions to Islamic medicine research and education. He conducted research in a variety of clinical areas and presented his results at national and international meetings of Muslim physicians. More than 100 scholarly research articles written by Dr. El-Kadi have been published, several of which were developed into presentations for conference purposes. Much of Dr. El-Kadi's written work can be read in the Journal of Islamic Medical Association of North America (JIMA), published by the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA).
In addition to being a MAS spiritual leader Dr. El-Kadi was an exemplary model of love and humility, who held an affinity for, and made a significant impact within, the Muslim youth community.
May Allah subhanau wa ta'ala grant him Jannah al-Firdous (the highest level of Paradise), accept all of his good deeds, forgive him and grant his family patience and reward in this calamity that has befallen us all. The Muslim American Society offers its sincerest condolences to Dr. El-Kadi’s family, MAS members and the Muslim community-at-large. |
